A PANAM fusible plug is a temperature actuated pressure relief device made of a body filled with a eutectic alloy of defined melting point. When exposed to a temperature equal to or higher than the melting point, the alloy melts and discharges pressure to atmosphere, preventing system overpressure.
Plugs have an SS 316 (or SS 316L) body, are suitable for liquid and gas service, and are offered with pipe thread or tube stub ends in four temperature ratings. Fusible plugs are non-reusable devices.
Every fusible plug is factory tested up to its maximum pressure rating for no detectable leakage, cleaned and packaged to PANAM standard, and complies with NACE MR0175 and MR0103 with heat code traceability.

Range
| End connection | Sizes | Example part number |
|---|---|---|
| NPT | 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" | PFP-4N-SS-160 |
| BSPT | 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" | PFP-6R-SS-212 |
| BSPP | 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" | PFP-8G-SS-255 |
| Tube stub | 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" | PFP-4T-SS-281 |
Ordering code: P + FP, connection size (4, 6, 8), connection type (N = NPT, R = BSPT, G = BSPP, T = tube stub), material (SS, SSL) and melting point designator (160, 212, 255, 281). Example: PFP-4N-SS-160 = 1/4" NPT fusible plug, SS 316, 160 °F (71 °C).
Applications
Overtemperature and fire protection of pressurized instrument, pneumatic and gas systems, in liquid or gas service, in oil and gas, chemical and power plants.
