Erosion-corrosion occurs in flowing fluids carrying sand, silt, precipitated salts or other solids, which thin or remove the protective layer and greatly increase metal loss. EuropCorr sand probes are a simple and robust way to detect significant erosion in high-velocity flow lines.
The sensing part of the sacrificial sand probe is a thin-wall steel tube (generally 1 mm) inserted into the flow line. When sand or solids have eroded through the tube, line pressure reaches a sensing device (pressure gauge, or pneumatic or electric sensor connected to the control room), giving early warning of critical metal loss.
Here the sand probe, closed at one end, is screwed to a Sand Nut attached to a Solid Plug in a tee access fitting. When the probe is eroded, line pressure passes through holes in the sand nut to the tee, where a gauge or sensor registers it. It is used with both 2" high-pressure mechanical and hydraulic systems and is serviced with the Retrieval Kit without interruption.
